Power Generation - Others
Established in 2008, the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) is one of five economic development corridors created by the Federal Government of Malaysia as part of its plan to stimulate investment-led growth in traditionally rural areas. SCORE spans an area of more than 100,000km², about 80% of Sarawak, which extends from the central region to the northern region of Sarawak.
Whilst renewable energy is at the core of SCORE, other forms of energy are also required to ensure the sustainability and reliability of energy supply in Sarawak. The Sarawak Energy's 624 MW Balingian coal-fired power plant, which is the first plant in Malaysia to use circulating fluidised bed boiler technology can handle a wide range of coal types and can reduce the emission of nitrogen dioxide and sulphur dioxide by more than 40%. PPM was involved in the management of the Balingian Coal Stockyard and Infrastructure Project and Global Energy Minerals (GEM) Coal Stockyard and Infrastructure Project.
